Chosen for one of the most selective postgraduate programs in the world, Scholars will receive a fully funded scholarship to study at the new Schwarzman College at the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing. Schwarzman Scholars is designed to prepare its graduates to build stronger relationships between China and a rapidly changing world and to address the most pressing challenges of the 21st Century.

“I am humbled and honoured to be awarded the Schwarzman Scholarship 2019/2020, and excited to pursue the Master of Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing next year.

It is an exciting time to understand how China fits into the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century. As the first Cambodian-Canadian, I feel a deep sense of personal responsibility to foster and build the bridges that unite both Cambodia and Canada to China. Given China’s growing presence in Southeast Asia – economically, politically, and socially, and the need for Canada to deepen our relationship with the world’s fastest-growing economy, understanding China will be essential for both these countries in navigating its bilateral ties with China.

During the interview process, it was incredible to meet inspiring and talented people from all over the world, who were making a real impact in their respective fields of study and work from policy and politics to business and science. With the aim of bringing people with different backgrounds, temperaments, professions, and perspectives, I am excited to engage and learn from my fellow Schwarzman Scholars, professionals, and academics at Tsinghua University.

I am excited to engage, grow and learn from this once-and-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Congratulations, Darren!
