MPPGA alumnus Andrés Delgado-Ron shared his recent experiences at the annual Creative Commons Global Summit 2018:

“I absolutely loved the Creative Commons Summit 2018. Creative Commons (CC) provides free, easy-to-use copyright licenses to make a simple and standardized way to give the public permission to share and use creative work. The talks and sessions reminded me that there is a new way of doing politics in the digital age. I had the opportunity to salute Professor Lawrence Lessig, the founder of Creative Commons; to engage in conversation with Katherine Maher, Director of Wikimedia; and to learn from Ruth Okediji, Co-Director of the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard. Passion, empowerment, and inclusion made their way to the core of every conversation at the Delta Hotel in Toronto. During these three days, I hugged people from all over the world, I learned with them, for them, through them. It is an experience I definitely want to repeat in Lisbon in 2019.

My talk, “Mapping and engaging stakeholders: Policy implementation for the Commons” informed advocates and members of civil society organizations about how to bring change in their own communities. I am genuinely grateful for being able to share what I learned in the MPPGA program with those who need it and appreciate it the most. I also learned about the new tools developed by CC for its members and I am looking forward to combining them with my knowledge in policy and global affairs to become a successful public lead for CC Ecuador, and involve the local community to unlock the full potential of the internet to drive a new era of development, growth and productivity.”

The Creative Commons Summit is an annual meeting that celebrates the culture of sharing and provides a space for open communities to collectively grow a vibrant, usable commons, powered by collaboration and gratitude. The 2018 CC Global Summit took place April 13 – 15, 2018 in Toronto. It builds on a new chapter envisioned for Creative Commons as a strong and growing global network.
